WILLY WONKA ACTOR IS DEAD AT 83



Gene Wilder the star of the 1971 Willy Wonka film died late Sunday evening at the age of 83.

According to Wilder's nephew, the late comedian died from complications connected to Alzheimer's disease.


Wilder began his acting career in 1962 when he appeared in the Tv-series Armstrong Circle Theatre. He scored his first major role in the 1967 movie Bonnie and Clyde where he played a hostage. 

He hit success when he landed the role of Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971). Wilder also stared in popular films such as Richard Prior: Silver Streak (1976) and See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) among several others.

Gene Wilder was born Jerome Silberman on June 11 1933 and is survived by his nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman.
