DRAKE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND DANCEHALL - SEAN PAUL

International Reggae artiste Sean Paul spoke out on artistes such as Drake who incorporate Dancehall elements into their music saying they don't understand Dancehall.
Speaking during a recent interview with The Guardian, Sean Paul explained that artistes such as Drake, Justin Bieber and Kanye West don't understand Dancehall.

He said, "It is a sore point when people like Drake or Bieber or other artists come and do dancehall-orientated music but don’t credit where dancehall came from and they don’t necessarily understand it."

The dancehall musician also mentioned that lots of Jamaican artistes get angry at these artistes because they don't credit the source. “A lot of people get upset, they get sour. And I know artists back in Jamaica that don’t like Major Lazer because they think they do the same thing that Drake and Kanye did – they take and take and don’t credit.”

Sean Paul said one of the reasons why Dancehall artists struggle abroad is because of their local convictions. He mentioned Popcaan as one of such artists saying  " Popcaan struggles to work in America because of his past marijuana-related offenses.

Sean Paul has been on the music scene since the 1990's but got his break after he released his 2000 album 'Stage One' which included songs such as 'Infiltrate' and 'Deport Them'.
