President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, sided with controversial San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick while speaking at Hangzhou, China yesterday.
Kaepernick has been in the spotlight since he decided not to stand and sing the USA national anthem
because he thinks the American flag represents a country that oppresses black people and people of color.
Obama in his speech said, "He is exercising his constitutional right to make a statement." He went on to say that it may be a strong pill for veterans who fought for the country to swallow; however, I think he cares about some real legitimate issues that have to be talked about."
Since Kaepernick's decision to refrain from standing and singing the national anthem, he has received backlash from many persons some of which mentioned that it’s a disrespect to the country while others have come to his defense.
President Obama's endorsement of Kaepernick's right to speak comes at a time when many persons are saying that the President hasn't done enough for the Black people of the country. The President is in his final months of Presidency and has endorsed Hillary Clinton to be the next President of the United States.
