South African Diva, Songstress, Radio personality, and Actress, Unathi Msengana, has confirmed that she will take to the stage at The Carousel in an intimate show for her fans on Heritage Day, 24 September 2016. The songstress will perform some of her latest material, such as her successful 2015 hit, “Run” as well as familiar songs from earlier albums, including her fourth studio album, Alive,
which was released in 2014.
Unathi Msengana is a lady who needs no introduction. She's a popular South African radio host on Metro fm, a judge on idols and singer/songwriter. Her new single “Sonini” with DJ Merlon is enjoying major airplay and climbing the charts on local radio and she is currently working on her fifth studio album.
Unathi has wooed audiences of all calibres. Performing for the United Nations delegates she evoked such strong emotions that legendary producer Quincy Jones gave her a standing ovation and proceeded to join her on stage during her performance to sing her praises. She has also shared the stage with international greats such as John Legend, Yossou- Ndou, Chaka Khan and Dbanj.
This power house has graced South Africa’s biggest stages including the fourth largest stage in the world, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival as well as the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz amongst others. One of her proudest achievements is composing her song “Sgubhu” which features on the soundtrack for the Oscar/Academy Award winning movie Tsotsi.
The multi-talented creative has the honour of being the first African to voice a Character on Walt Disney Junior on the incredibly popular show Doc Mc Stuffins. Unathi was also nominated for Best South African Radio Host at the Nicolodean Kids Choice Awards 2014. Lucky Bean Media, which she co-owns, was nominated for an International Emmy Award for their work on Master Chef South Africa and her Live Music DVD was nominated for Best DVD at the South African Music Awards.
A Rhodes University Journalism and Drama graduate, a University of Utrecht International Media studies graduate, Unathi moved to Johannesburg in 2001 becoming a presenter for Castle Loud and then moved onto the YFM platform. Now, Unathi co - hosts Metro FM’s breakfast show with the legendary Glen Lewis.
The show takes place at The Cheyenne Saloon at 21h00. Doors will open at 19h00 and entrance is R80 per person. Fans are urged to pre book their tickets at Computicket as seats are limited to preserve the intimate and interactive atmosphere.
