Christmas as it spelled is the combination of two words Christ and mas. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, the miracle that signifies the second chance that God has given us irrespective of the number of times we have sinned against God and mankind.
Looking back at how the birth of Christ was celebrated, is that how we are celebrating it now? Christmas is a also a time of bonding with our loved ones, forgiving ourselves irrespective of the
magnitude of the sin or what we have done. Have we forgotten the essence of celebrating Xmas or the main reason why we celebrate Christmas?
As a kid, I remember celebrating Xmas by eating a lot of food and chewing chicken meat. My mum will invite a lot of people to our house to eat, make merry and show that irrespective of who you are or where you come from, love is all that we need to be fully happy and satisfied with life. Xmas is all about showing love to one another and even sympathy to the poor and the needy.
During xmas, one will see organizations sending food and drinks to orphanage and even those on the street to enable them also celebrate the xmas. Even individuals also give to the poor and needy to also have a feel of how Christmas is celebrated but is it still so or have things changed? The answer to this question is with you.
This time around when we here that Christmas is around the corner, the first thing that comes to mind is which place, which club, which pub or where is the fun going to be. All we remember is how to put together a party, buy expensive clothes just to celebrate Xmas and make merry without thinking of what these homeless and needy people will do during the yuletide. Will they even get a single chicken bone to chew or even what they will wear? Yes, organizations help and so do some individuals but are they ever enough? Why don’t we do more because there is a lot more we can do for these abandoned people.
We all should remember that celebrating Christmas is all about showing love and giving out gifts as Jesus Christ was given a lot of gifts by the three shepherds who travelled a lot of distance just to get Jesus Christ his gifts and also not to talk about the countless gift people also brought to him. Let us not only think about ourselves, our families and loved ones alone but everybody. Let’s help bring the essence of Christmas that is the season of love and sharing. We should do more giving and not expecting from people. Even the Bible says giving is more important than receiving and even if you give that is a blessing upon one’s life. So why don’t we go according to what the Bible says.
Put a smile on someone’s face by giving them a gift.
