Kanye West has a message for his beloved mother on what would have been her 67th birthday.
In 2007, Donda West tragically died a day after undergoing plastic surgery. Nine years later, the Grammy-winning rapper is paying tribute to the woman who raised him with a few sweet remarks.
"NORI ASKED IF THE AIRPLANE COULD TAKE HER TO HEAVEN TO SEE YOU FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY, I LOVE YOU MOM," he tweeted, including a photo of his younger self smiling with his arm around Donda.
Since her untimely death, Donda's memory has lived on in West's career. As his former manager, Kanye commemorated her in his 2015 hit collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney, "Only One."
After debutting his Yeezy Season 3 line in early February, Kanye also sold t-shirts with his mother's face on them along with the words "In Loving Memory."
His wife Kim Kardashian also paid homage to her late mother-in-law, retweeting a fan montage of photos and videos of Kanye and Donda together, set to his 2005 song "Hey Mama."
Since the loss nearly a decade ago, Kanye has not frequently discussed his mother or the circumstances surrounding her death in public. However, in 2015, he did address the topic briefly in the August issue of the U.K. music magazine Q.
"If I had never moved to L.A. she'd be alive," Kanye told the magazine. "I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears."
