Cordiël was orphaned at a young age but has managed to rise above his circumstances to complete school and begin his pursuits in the entertainment industry. His love for music and the performing arts was evident at an early age and by high school, his talents had been noticed.
In grade 10, he starred as Archie in the musical District Six presented by the Breerivier High School.
Growing up in Worcester, Cordiël learned quickly to stand his ground and do things for himself.
With no interest in hanging around on the streets, he joined a dance group, Cool Lagoon, which participated in competitions and performed in places as far as Lesotho. In 2004, he joined a band, Question Marks, and gained valuable experience in performing on stage, harmonies and acapella.
His big break came in 2015 when he competed in the talent show, SA’s Got Talent and the GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition in which he made it to the semi-finals. He also took third place in the Worcester FM and Golden Valley Open Mic Competition earlier this year.
He was then spotted by SABC 3’s Espresso presenter, Kim Cloete, and offered a role in the musical My Wonder Years which enjoyed success at KKNK 2016 in Oudtshoorn and Maynardville, Cape Town. In March this year, he performed at the Worcester Town Hall in his own production, Cordiël Nathan Plugged-In.
True to its promise to support local artists and offer emerging a performer’s platform to showcase their talents, Golden Valley presents Worcester born Cordiël Nathan (Witbooi) and his band to its stage next weekend.
Buoyed by the success of this show, Golden Valley was keen to invite Cordiël to perform on stage at Winners Sports Bar. Music fans can look forward to a delightful evening of music by the charming performer on Friday, 19 August 2016. Entrance is free but seats are limited so guests should arrive early to avoid missing out. The show will start at 21h00.
“We are delighted to give one of Worcester’s very own a stage to perform. We hope the community will come to support this talented, up-and-coming performer at his first ever show at Golden Valley,” says René Scholtz, the PR and Promotions Manager at Golden Valley.
