SOUTH AFRICA'S JOE NINA ON STAGE AT DIAMOND LIL’S

Few artists can say that their musical journeys started at the age of three.  Henry Makhosini Xaba, now known as Joe Nina, is one of these artists and a growing force to be reckoned in the South African music industry.

Diamond Lil’s at Windmill will be hosting this dynamic artist who went from humble beginnings in the Kwa-Themba Township in the East Rand where he was born, to owning his own recording company, writing a soundtrack for the movie Jump the gun and starring in it by the age of 24.

One of South Africa’s Kwaito pioneers Joe Nina has also reached great success as an Afro-soul musician but is not limited to any of these genres. His latest CD called Back together for life, has everything from township groove to hip-hop and fusion to reggae.

He comes from an exceptionally musical family.  His father, who was a guitarist and saxophone player in the Sophiatown days, and his mother who did backing vocals for his father’s band used to take their son along to gigs, where he was too happy to learn.  They would also travel as far as Swaziland, living the musical dream.

Learning to play the drums and sing under the excellent coaching of his father, Joe Nina slowly developed his talent.  By age 14 he could play the piano and at 16 he announced to his family his intentions to pursue a musical career.  Joe Nina has been on fire ever since and never looked back.

Catch Joe Nina performing some of his first original favourites, such as “Rose of the Road” and “True to form” as well as some new content on the Diamond Lil’s stage. He will be hosted alongside other artists on 11 and 12 November.

Tickets can be bought at the Windmill cash desk at R 200 per person and the show starts at 18h00.  No under 18s will be allowed entrance.
