She needs no introduction as she is one of the single most influential musicians in the world.
Erykah Badu, singer-songwriter is known for blessing our eardrums with her chart-topping hit album Baduizm which included tracks “Love of My Life”, “Bag Lady”, and “On & On”.
Erykah Badu was born on February 26, 1971 to William and Kollen Wright in Dallas, Texas. She inherited a taste for music from her mother who introduced her to multiple genres of music (Joni
Mitchell, Parliament-Funkadelic, Pink Floyd, Phoebe Snow, Chaka Khan). At the tender age of four, Badu began singing and dancing in productions at the local Dallas Theatre Centre. It wasn’t until her acting debut in the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Centre’s musical production of “Really Rosie,” directed by her godmother Gwen Hargrove, that Badu realized she was a natural performer. “I played Alligator,” Badu says, “and at 6 years old, I got my first standing ovation. I knew I wanted to bring people to their feet from that point on.”
This icon has been nominated and won over 29 awards over her music career including recognition from the Grammy Awards, BET Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards.
Erykah Badu has collaborated with artists such as Common (who performed at last year’s DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival), D’Angelo, OutKast, and The Roots but, her talent doesn’t begin and end with singing and writing. This queen is also a record producer, disc jockey, actress who can play the keyboard, and drums!
DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival 2018 will be on fire as Grammy award-winning musician, Erykah Badu hits the stage.
We look forward to going on the greatest musical journey with Badu at this year’s DStv Delicious festival!
